This book is written as a practical guide for the non-specialist. It begins with the necessary background information on electrophysiology and the way in which mormal and abnormal conditions are displayed on the ECG. It then discusses the symptoms associated with disorders of rate, rhythm and conduction, and patients who have no symptoms. This is followed by a major section on recognition and treatment, dealing in turn with variations of normal sinus rhythm, disorders of rate and rhythm, and disorders of conduction.
The next section contains a selection of drugs and physical methods, with detailed information on their use and possible side effects. The final section comprises three groups of six management problems, written respectively for general practitioners, hospital doctors and nurses. The patient's problem is presented and the reader is asked to make decisions about diagnosis, further investigation and management.
